[18F] Fluorothymidine (FLT)

A radioactive substance being studied in the diagnosis of cancer. 18F-FLT is injected into the blood and builds up in cells that are dividing, including cancer cells. The radiation that it gives off as it decays (breaks down) helps make clear pictures of tumors during a positron emission tomography (PET) scan.

fluorothymidine, (18F-FLT) is a fluorinated tracer which has been proposed as an imaging biomarker of cell proliferation and has been utilized in various cancer types including lymphoma, leukemia, bone and soft tissue sarcomas, breast, head and neck, esophageal and lung cancers to assess treatment response
